Beautiful Skin To Envy Foods

Beautiful facial skin has always been envied that almost everybody makes their way to maintaining a healthy-looking one, ranging from using a basic cleanser to engaging in facial surgeries. But there are three practical ways to maintaining the skin's splendor: identifying the skin type, treating skin problems the moment they show, and establishing a daily skin regimen. For some, a daily skin care regimen means facial wash-toner-cream-routine while others have a more unique practice-- that is, veggies-spices-fruits-itinerary.

There are foods that are not only good to chew but also healthy to apply on the skin because of their natural potency to nourish the bodies inside and out. Long before the emergence of commercial beauty skin products such as Healthy Pores Facial Wash, traditional methods of cleansing the skin have been applied in the earlier ages. There were no bottles of facial cleanser and cotton balls yet so it was more customary to gather herbs and other botanicals to maintain the skin's luster. Now, many have adapted this traditional method of rummaging through kitchens and refrigerators to look for veggies, fruits, juices, and spices to pat on the skin for a healthier glow.

There are foods that are potent in keeping the skin's moisture and one of these is almond. These nuts are commonly found in chocolates and salads, but only a few know that they can also remedy dry skin. Almond powder blended with water makes up an oil that, if applied on the skin, can provide moisture and erase old pimple scars. Another food in this category is honey, which is not only good on the skin but also on the entire body. If applied with water, honey can keep the skin's glow and moisture evident. Further, for a better complexion, honey can be applied with yogurt, pounded sesame seeds, and milk. Similar to almonds and honey, is also ideal for maintaining the skin's glow by just rubbing the fresh fruit on the skin. It can also treat acne, whiteheads, and black spots.

Preventing facial skin problems is as good as treating them. So, to decrease the tendencies of developing pimples, blackheads, wrinkles, and skin dryness, the paste of fenugreek leaves or boiled seeds can be applied on the skin with water. Now, if preventive measures fail and skin inflammation and itching stubbornly occur, the kitchen can still be the best place for finding treatments. For example, an apple's fruit juice is an aid to those who are suffering from skin problems such as irritation and itching. Apricot has more or less the same effect, which is evident in lots of commercial skin products today with this ingredient. But apricot's optimum effectiveness is also best maximized when used raw because its juice is efficient in healing sunburn, eczema, and itching.

Having wrinkles is also one of the most common problems today especially among older women but to avoid having such marks, it is advisable to apply green apple juice on the skin. The tropical fruit pineapple, meanwhile, removes wrinkles not only by scrubbing its juice on the skin but also the fruit's core. One will notice that aside from treating wrinkles, pineapple is also helpful in medicating other skin problems.
When dark areas below the eyes are the problem, the perennial solution is always a pair of sliced cucumber. But unknown to many, cucumber juice with carrot juice, alfalfa, or lettuce can also treat skin lesions. Aside from cucumber, the dark spots below the eyes can also be treated with turmeric paste and pineapple juice. Meanwhile, for healing minor skin problems, it is advisable to pair the paste with whole wheat or gram flour.

The adage "You are what you eat" should be taken with much thought since how well the skin looks manifests how healthy one's diet is. As such, eating foods rich with Vitamin C, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, antioxidant, zinc, and healthy oil is essential in keeping a younger-looking skin. For one, sunflower seeds have Vitamin E that's a key player in preventing skin sagging and wrinkles. This is because Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant that slows down the skin cells' maturation. Also available nowadays, kiwi has a great amount of Vitamin C that maintains the skin's collagen. With Vitamin C intact in the body system, the skin becomes firmer and more radiant. Like kiwi, turkey meat firms the skin with its high amount of zinc that maintains skin's elastin fiber and collagen.

Furthermore, drinking an adequate amount of water a day, about 8 to 10 glasses, keeps the skin cells hydrated. As such, toxins are moved out from the body and the cells are rejuvenated and regenerated. However, if water is insufficient in the body, impurities build up and decelerate the skin's youthful glow. Still, it is not sound to take sodas and other beverages in place of water because these are not as healthy and pure. A better replacement would be black or green tea, which also has phytonutrients and anti-acne antioxidants.

According to Healthypores.com, only 5% of the human population is gifted with a perfect skin and these people are the least likely to develop skin problems such as stubborn acne. But whatever beauty routine one may choose, be it an all-natural wash or a combination of veggies and fruits, a healthy skin regimen for rejuvenation should always include nutritious food in every meal. With the inclusion of healthy foods in the daily skin regimen, that 5% will possibly balloon into a bigger percentage.

Celebrity Diet Secrets

Soup
Liz Hurley is reported to be a big fan of watercress soup to help her stay in shape. She says, “I drink at least six cups a day when eager to lose a few pounds”. Of course that might be all she eats, which isn’t a healthy way to lose weight, but there’s proof that slurping soup can help shedding pounds.

Researchers from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore in the US, found that people who has soup as a starter, choose a lower fat main course. But we are not talking of soups made of cream! Go for carrot and coriander, minestrone, vegetable or Liz’s favourite, watercress.
Stick to healthy eating

Halle Berry has a dream body and a perfect diet to match. Diagnosed with diabetes when she was 19, Halle avoids refined sugars and instead chooses naturally sweet fruit. Plus she limits fried foods, fills up with vegetables and rather than constantly going out to restaurants, eats at home where she can easily control her meals.
Make Exercise Fun Exercising regularly doesn’t always mean sweating it out in the gym - something celebrities have known for years. Many stars go for unusual – and fun- activities to keep in shape.

Catherine Zeta-Jones regularly joins her husband Michael Douglas on the golf course. Complete 18 holes and you’ll use 720 calories.
Sandra Bullock goes rock climbing which burns 365 calories in a half hour climb.
Jennifer Aniston, tones her legs by jogging on the spot in her swimming pool . This water workout uses 165 calories in just 15 minutes.
Nichole Kidman learnt to cancan for Moulin Rouge – and burnt 470 calories for every hour she practiced.

Go Organic
Until the birth of her daughter Apple, Gwyneth Paltrow famously followed a strict macrobiotic diet plan, which banned all meat, eggs, dairy and caffeine. However, during pregnancy Gwyneth bloomed and she puts the weight gain down to the fact that she ditched the rabbit food and instead indulged her cravings for toasted cheese sandwiches and chips.
Since the baby's arrival, Gwyneth has resumed a healthier eating plan, although she admits she's not as strict on herself as she once was. 'I try to eat as organically as possible and I steer clear of candy because I don't think there's any energy in it,' she says. 'I simply try not to eat any over-manufactured foods that aren't naturally welcome in my body. I try not to eat anything "toxic" that will drain my energy.'

Three –meals –a –day plan
According to supermodel and mother-of-two, Claudia Schiffer, a sensible, three-meals-a-day plan is the only way to maintain her catwalk curves. 'I don't diet because it messes up your metabolism,' she says. 'Instead I eat three meals a day, particularly lots of fruit for breakfast because it's cleansing and quickly digested by the body and I try hard not to snack in-between meals. But if I want a piece of chocolate or a biscuit, then I have one. Denial makes you crave for something even more.

As well as sticking to a three-meals-a-day plan, Claudia tries to eat organically. 'I like my food to be as natural and unpolluted by chemicals as possible so I always eat organic.
Drew does in moderation
Formerly a strict vegetarian, Drew now occasionally eats meat but says 'I don't eat a ton of meat, but if I feel my body needs some, then I'll eat it. I don't put strict limitations on myself anymore, if I want something, I'll have it but in moderation.' As well as being sensible and eating three meals a day, consisting mostly of organic fruit and vegetables, Drew satisfies her sweet tooth with Diet Coke and low-fat jelly.
She also ensures that fun forms of exercise are incorporated into her daily routine. These include swimming, jogging, dancing and err, crazy golf. She says, 'It doesn't matter how you raise a sweat, so long as you have fun doing it.

10 Years of Sex: The best of Miranda and Charlotte style

by Jennifer Romolini, Shine staff, on Tue May 27, 2008 3:32pm PDT

Did you know? It's Sex and the City week here at Shine and, OK, readers, I have a confession to make: I have seen the new movie. And I suspect many of you will like it very much when it comes out...on Friday! Just three days away! In the meantime, though, let's just enjoy some SATC nostalgia. Starting with the underrated style of underrated characters Charlotte and Miranda (both of whom I totally love).
Do you have favorite SATC outfits? Tell me about them! I'll have a favorite outfits post later this week.

Charlotte:

photos: HBO

I am especially partial to Charlotte in the first couple of seasons, when she had a sexy intellectual thing going, more than when she became a total Upper East Side preppy lady.

Photos: HBO

What I learned from Charlotte York: Well-done hair, subtle makeup and a classic pair of gold earrings can take a girl a long way.

photos: HBO

Kristen Davis seriously knows how to work a little black dress.

photos: HBO

Oh, she sure looked beautiful as Mrs. Trey MacDougal, but maybe not as much as...

photos: HBO

...Mrs. Harry Goldenblatt.

Miranda:

photos: HBO

You know, Cynthia Nixon had it a little tough. She was always the least femininely dressed, often in suits, always with really short hair. But I think she pulled it off beautifully, managing to look sexy beneath all the business-ness.

photos: HBO

This outfit has a chic, European- woman-going-to-work vibe.

photos:HBO

I gotta say, I think Miranda outshines everyone in this classy-sparkly v-neck.

photos: HBO

Love the sharp cut of this top...

photos: HBO

...this beaded necklace...

...and how this funky belt completely transforms a plain shirt dress.
Also: Miranda was worried about plastic bags long before the rest of us.

10 Years of Sex: The best of Samantha style

by Jennifer Romolini, Shine staff

You know what people forget about Samantha Jones/Kim Cattrall? She is freakin' beautiful. And aging amazingly. And was consistently the funniest, most daring, and often most empowering part of SATC. Much has been written by scholars bigger than I about this character's independence, professional power, sexual liberation and the impact it has had on our society. Basically I just love her. I love how comfortable she always seemed in her body, I love how she was never subjugated, how she was never judgmental, how she threw men around, but always took care of her friends. Let's face it, I also love what she wore. After the jump, some of the best.

photos: HBO

My goodness. That is one sexy 40-something lady.

photos: HBO

I would never know what to do with yellow, black and orange, but on her? It's hot.

photos: HBO

During her lesbian period, looking gorgeous in a pretty patterned dress.

photos: HBO

I feel like they called each other before they left the house:

"Is today stripes day?"

"Yeah."

photos: HBO

See, this is how one should pull off a basic button-down.

photos: HBO

I don't condone fur, but let's pretend it's faux and admire her awesome flip-hair.

10 Years of Sex: A tribute to Carrie's incredible, memorable style

by Jennifer Romolini, Shine staff

Since I've been a freelance writer in real life, there were many, many times where I would get irrationally angry at Carrie Bradshaw's completely unrealistic fashion budget and even at her imaginary ham-handed columns (there's no way that God made little green apples that an editor would let you repeat the same "I had to wonder..." construction with such frequency). Still, I've interviewed SJP and I love her and I know we're talking fantasy here—I am not above admitting the great (if guilty) pleasure I derived from watching Ms. Bradshaw's sartorial and romantic escapades over the past decade. Here's my small (and completely not comprehensive) tribute.

photos: HBO

Oh, Lady, you wore a big fur, classic aviators and the best heels to...a baseball game! (applause)

photos: HBO

This is from when she briefly dated that politician—it is awesome in a Jackie-O-meticulous way.

photos: HBO

My favorite kind of Carrie. Earthy, breezy, well-accessorized.
I have been searching for a vintage dress like this for about 7.5 years.

photos: HBO

Remember how you were all pissed because the dress you wanted to wear was stuck at the dry cleaners and you wore this and then ran into Big? I think it worked out fine.

The big necklaces were fantastic.

photos: HBO

It's insane and a little bit unfair that you look so good in white mesh.

photos: HBO

Even though you were totally wrong for each other, I kind of wanted you to marry Aidan in this dress that night and just see if maybe it could work out like arranged marriages sometimes do.

photos: HBO

Seriously, a white blazer and a yellow Mickey Mouse t-shirt? Genius.

photos: HBO

Yeah, like Enid had a chance with Alexandr while you were wearing this.

Everything you put on in Paris was incredible, including this happy dress in a sad moment.

When I interviewed Sarah Jessica Parker, she said this was her favorite dress ever on the show...

...but this one was mine.

10 Years of 'Sex:' How "Sex and the City" changed our lives

by Annette Cardwell, Shine staff

It's finally here! The much-anticipated "Sex and the City: The Movie" comes out this weekend, and many of us 'Sex' addicts will be shaking up some cosmos with our best gal pals ahead of a night at the movies to celebrate.

We, the editors here at Shine, have been having our own virtual cosmo party here on the site by blogging about the last 10 fabulous years with Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte and Samantha. That's right; it was June 1998 when the first episode aired on HBO, and my how the world is different now thanks to them. For one, the pretty-in-pink cosmopolitan cocktail is now a favorite of ladies nationwide. And how many of you would have coveted Jimmy Choos or Manolos before Carrie sported them? Also, would we have even blinked 10 years ago if someone was talking about going to bed with their "rabbit?"

So many great moments to cherish, and we've done our best here to sum them up. Hope you enjoy our little trip down SATC memory lane.

Jennifer Romolini starts us off with her roundup of the best fashion moments from the fabulous four:

American Idol results May 14, 2008.

American Idol results were predicted even before the viewer votes were counted. 56 million votes were tallied.

Syesha Mercado did not make it. There was speculation that her choices of songs were not favorable to her vocal range. She did not cry but sang her swan song beautifully.

David Archuleta and David Cook will compete head to head for next week’s finale.

American Idol Finale: One David Becomes a Goliath

David Cook of 'American Idol'
David Cook of 'American Idol'

After a five-month season leading up to a seemingly preordained Top Two, American Idol reached its orgiastic two-hour finale on Wednesday (May 21) night. As the show began, only one thing was certain... David's got it in the bag. Follow along to the stunning conclusion...

7:58 p.m. ET. Ample supply of caffeine? Check. Seven seasons of accumulated knowledge of American Idol? Check. Red Sox game in the background (and ready supply of " Bartolo Colon is soooo fat..." jokes)? Check. Ingrained sense of cynicism and wonderment? Check. It's time for...

7:59 p.m. The American Idol Finale!

8:00 p.m. David Cook and David Archuleta, bathed in a spotlight and both wearing a blinding white, are facing off against each other like ancient warriors. Ancient wimpy warriors.

8:01 p.m. We're one minute into the show and nobody has made a boxing reference. How long can that possibly last?

8:01 p.m. After Tuesday night's show, 97.5 million votes came in, smashing the show's previous record by more than 20 million. One David, we're told, received 56 percent of the vote. The other received 44 percent. Hillary Clinton would advise the second David to stay in the race to the very end, but if we're being honest, that's a rout.

8:02 p.m. OMG! Mikalah Gordon? Oh the nostalgia. Squeezed in a gold dress and squeezed more awkwardly into Kansas City, it's good to have The Nanny Junior back.

8:03 p.m. OMFG! It's Matt Rogers in Utah. He played in the Rose Bowl, y'all!!!

8:04 p.m. Trendspotting alert: Rogers and Gordon were the 11th place finishers in the show's third and fourth seasons. Can we expect appearances from Kevin Covais, Stephanie Edwards and Charles Grigsby later in the episode?

8:05 p.m. The So You Think You Can Dance hoofers come out and rock the stage before being replaced by the much less graceful Idol Top 12 singing "Get Ready." David Archuleta appears to have been too busy learning his songs this week to worry about the choreography. America's Nanny Brooke White, on the other hand, proves that with three weeks to learn her steps, she can be an enthusiastic participant.

8:10 p.m. The Davids were worthy finalists, but they wouldn't be asked to sing together under normal circumstances, as their duet on "Hero" proves. This is much more of a Cookie Monster song. Li'l' Archie's just hanging out and being a good sport. He'll get a personalized song later, I'd guess.

8:13 p.m. Coming soon to a theater near you, Michael Myers' new exercise in ethnic caricature, The Love Guru. The Finalists got to see The Love Guru and, guess what, they loved it! The joke is that they've had lots of mentors on American Idol this season, so this is just another one. Meanwhile, all of America is having the same thought: The Guru Pitka may be lame, but he couldn't be worse than Randy.

8:15 p.m. Awkward humor ensues as Michael Myers reprises his character to advise David Cook to shave and David Archuleta that he'll soon be facing puberty. The Davids play along ineffectively, especially when Cookie has to force out laughter at Myers attacking him with a razor. His feigned enthusiasm reads as "This is funny and I'm wanting to kill you now!"

8:17 p.m. The commercial continues as Myer comes out on stage. He's still in costume, but he isn't even bothering with his accent. Obviously he hasn't been paid enough to care.

8:18 p.m. This season's third place finisher, Syesha Mercado arrives to sing "Waiting for You" with special guest Seal. They're quite excellent.

8:20 p.m. Marry me, Cat Deeley! Ooops. Did I say that out loud?

8:21 p.m. Oh look. An official commercial for The Love Guru.

8:25 p.m. We're traveling back through this season's Idol timeline with Jason Castro reprising his version of Jeff Buckley's version of "Hallelujah." They weren't able to get Leonard Cohen join Clifford the Muppet for what would have been the funniest Idol duet ever.

8:27 p.m. Set to "Let the Good Times Roll," the night's Ford commercial is outtakes from all of the season's earlier Ford commercials. Ford saves money and makes money at the same time.

8:29 p.m. The two Davids will each receive Fords. I won't say what kind, because Ford hasn't paid me.

8:30 p.m. The Idol Women weren't good enough to make the Top Two, but they're showcased in a Group Sing tribute to Donna Summer. I'd forgotten how surreal it used to be to watch Amanda Overmyer suffer through these ensemble performances. She's just not a team player. Let it never be said that this was not the most attractive group of female contestants in Idol history. Ms. Summer closes the number with what I'm told is her new single.

8:35 p.m. Syesha gets to take Donna's bejeweled mic to sing along. And can we make a list of places Amanda Overmyer looks like she'd rather be? Let's start with Fallujah and go from there.

8:39 p.m. Referencing their surprising early departures, Carly Smithson and Michael Johns have been paired together for a rendition of "The Letter." It should never be forgotten that Clifford the Muppet and America's Nanny outlasted these two. Some people may see this as the show's effort to ghettoize its foreign contestants, but I think it's just that they're two singers capable of performing in a duet.

8:43 p.m. Jimmy Kimmel's back for some reason, making predictable jokes about Sanjaya (he's amused), karaoke (nobody laughs) and Paula's clairvoyance (she giggles and jiggles). He introduces a not-funny-enough musical montage of Simon's insults.

8:45 p.m. The Top Six guys treat us to a medley by Canadian Idol Bryan Adams. Fortunately, Bryan Adams didn't have anything else to do tonight, so he shows up. Between this and being referenced in a How I Met Your Mother joke, this is the first time Bryan Adams has been references twice in one week since the 21st Century began.

8:54 p.m. Jordin Sparks wants us to live her American Idol dream as some Disney theme park. The attraction will include having an underperforming debut album and being put on vocal rest.

8:55 p.m. David Cook and ZZ Top joining forces on "Sharp Dressed Man"? That's just awesome. That reminds me... Why didn't Billy Gibbons make it back onto Bones this season as Angela's dad? This is the most fun Cook has had all season.

8:58 p.m. Mikalah's back in Kansas City. They're very excited. That's because they haven't been watching the Red Sox open up a 5-2 lead on the Royals. It's clear that Mikalah's been working out, but has he also been taking elocution lessons?

8:59 p.m. While I'd have rather seen Brooke sing with either Carly Simon or Carole King, Graham Nash is pretty great too. The problem? Brooke's good at counter-melody, but she isn't so great at harmonizing.

9:06 p.m. WHEEEEEEEE!!!! It's the Jonas Brothers.

9:09 p.m. Oh goodie. A montage of the season's worst contestants. Renaldo Lapuz is, as one might expect, the highlight.

9:11 p.m. Making a bold grab for an addition 15 minutes of fame, Renaldo appears joined (and distracted) by the USC's Spirit of Troy marching band and the USC Song Girls. Fight on, Renaldo!

9:18 p.m. Poor One Republic, having to follow up Renaldo Lapuz. That's not fair. Also not fair? David Cook got to perform with ZZ Top and Li'l' Archie only gets One Republic?

9:21 p.m. Matt Rogers played in the Rose Bowl. Now he's interviewing David Archuleta's grandfathers who are, not surprisingly, proud in both English and Spanish. Matt tries to foment an international crisis, but falls short.

9:23 p.m. Jordin Spark seems to be able to sing again.

9:31 p.m. Zombie Gladys Knight is stuck performing, by the magic of computers, with Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. The unlikely trio will be co-starring in Tropic Thunder later this summer. Tropic Thunder, like The Love Guru, is being released by Paramount, in case you were curious who's paying for this two-hour infomercial tonight.

9:34 p.m. What did Gladys Knight do to deserve that shoddy treatment? And where's Zombie Elvis? Zombie Elvis need more brains...

9:35 p.m. Carrie Underwood has rarely been hotter than she looks tonight and I'm not just saying that because the cameraman is trying desperately to get a shot under her short white skirt. OK. Maybe I am.

9:43 p.m. "Well, I guess it would be nice if I could touch your body," Kristy Lee Cook coos, starting the Group Sing to George Michael's "Faith." The men transition into "Father Figure." Everybody joins forces on "Freedom."

9:47 p.m. Ladies and Gentlemen... Mr. George Michael. Paula is moved by his rendition of "Praying for Time." How did George Michael go from cool to punchline and back to cool again? I can't help but feel like George Michael Bluth had something to do with it.

9:53 p.m. Ryan promises this will be our last commercial break before the official coronation.

9:57 p.m. Randy says this was a great Season Seven and that the Davids are both winners. He doesn't clarify which of them would do a better job singing the phone book. Paula thinks it's odd we call this a finale, since this isn't the end for them. Simon clarifies that Tuesday was not as clear-cut as he announced it was last night. He even takes a second to apologize to David Cook for his lack of respect. It's pretty clear that somebody tipped Simon off to what DialIdol has been reporting all day.

9:58 p.m. "For the first time ever, I don't really care who wins," Simon says.

9:59 p.m. Some accountant presents the winner's name to Ryan in an envelope. Oooh. The tension is bearable.

10 p.m. Your American Idol Season Seven winner is... DAVID COOK.

10:01 p.m. After the judges' pronouncements last night, who'd have guessed that David Cook wouldn't just win, but he'd win by a 12 million vote margin? A Cookie Monster win makes total sense to me, but a rout? That's unexpected.

10:01 p.m. David Cook, who announced earlier in the season that he loves words, is at a loss for them. Words, I mean. He blames his brother and calls the rest of the Top 12 to join him for his final song, which is everything you could possible hope for and dread in an Idol coronation ballad.

10:05 p.m. It's been a pleasure sharing this season with y'all. Let's do it again in five months, eh?

So what'd you think of the finale? Did the right David win? And does anybody have any theories on how it ended up being a rout?

What is a stretch mark and how is one formed?

Stretch marks, otherwise known as Striae Gravidarum, occur in the middle layer of the skin matrix, which is the layer that helps skin retain its shape. Skin is composed of three layers: the epidermis (outer layer), the dermis (middle layer), and the subcutaneous stratum (innermost layer). These marks will develop when the middle layer of the skin or dermis is constantly stretched beyond its capacity. This constant tension on the skin results in it becoming less elastic and the connective fibres (collagen and elastin), within the skin matrix, tear and or become thinner. In response to this situation, the body forms scar tissue and a stretch mark treatment becomes necessary.

A newly formed stretch mark is pink, red, brown, or purple in colour. The actual colour depends on the skin tone of the individual. An early sign of the development of this skin problem is an area of the skin that becomes flattened, thin, pink in colour, and possibly itchy. The colour of the stretch mark is due to the transparency of the skin in its stretched state showing small blood vessels underneath it. As time passes, without any stretch mark treatment being used, the colour of the stretch mark fades to white or a colour lighter than the individual’s natural skin colour. In the end, a stretch mark is best described as thin, stretched, and indented tissue in the form of glossy or silvery lines. Stretch marks are usually several centimetres long and in the range of 1 to 10 mm wide.

What are the factors that determine whether stretch marks will occur?

Before discussing stretch marks treatment options or a stretch mark cure, it is worthy to discuss the factors that make individuals more susceptible to stretch marks. By understanding the causes, preventative actions may be put into place.

Weight Gain

Stretch marks may form when an individual grows very quickly. Also, large and rapid weight gain or frequently fluctuating weight can lead to this skin problem. People who are obese often have stretch marks and people who are constantly on or off weight loss diets have them as well. Body builders can develop them, because bodybuilding usually results in rapid body changes. As the body gets larger the skin gets overly stretched and the marks appear.

Pregnancy is a major cause of stretch marks in women because of the large and fairly rapid gain in weight. Also, hormonal changes bare some of the blame. Hormones soften the collagen ligaments and skin collagen in the pelvic area so that the tissues are able to stretch easily during childbirth. Thus, when you combine softer collagen and skin stretching, stretch marks will easily form.

If a woman is carrying multiples, is carrying a large baby, or has an excess amount of amniotic fluid, then the stretch marks may be even more significant. On average, 75 to 90 per cent of women will develop stretch marks as a result of pregnancy. With such a high percentage, it is no wonder that having a stretch mark treatment available is very important.

Genetic Factors

An individual is likely to be more susceptible to stretch marks if there is a family history of the problem. Skin structure and skin properties are genetically determined and therefore individuals may be predisposed to the development of these marks.

Race

Women or men with greater amounts of melanin (skin pigment) are less prone to these marks.

Drugs

Prolonged use (a few months or more) of oral corticosteroids or more or the use of topical corticosteroid creams or ointments such as hydrocortisone for several weeks, can lead to the formation of these marks on the skin.

Cushing’s Syndrome

Cushing’s Syndrome is a condition characterized by an increase in adrenal cortical activity in the body. This results in an excessive amount of cortisol circulating in the body. Cortisol can lead to the increased likelihood of stretch mark formation.

Where are stretch marks most likely to appear?

Before discussing treatment options, below is a quick summary of body areas that frequently are affected by the marks.

  • lower abdomen and breasts in pregnant women; the hips, buttocks, and thighs may also be affected
  • thighs, buttocks, back area, and breasts in adolescents that are undergoing rapid growth spurts
  • shoulder, chest, upper arm, and thigh areas in body builders
  • on the face and other non-standard areas if the marks were caused by corticosteroid overuse or Cushing’s Syndrome

Pregnancy Exercise And Diet Tips - Sensible Advice For Expectant Mothers

Mothers-to-be have many questions about pregnancy nutrition and exercise. The tips and advice below will help you get started on a healthy pregnancy.

A diet containing the essential nutrients and vitamins are vital to the development of both mother and child. Vitamins are imperative to the health of a developing baby and the well being of the mother. Choosing foods that are rich in vitamins and other nutrients are a critical part of a healthy pregnancy nutrition plan and supplemental vitamins are necessary as well.

Follow a well-planned pregnancy diet to help avoid complications such as morning sickness, fatigue, anemia, and constipation. Your healthy diet must continue after pregnancy if you plan to breastfeed your baby.

Pregnancy food recommendations

* Your pregnancy diet should include plenty of complex and unrefined carbohydrates as they contain important B vitamins, trace minerals, and fiber that are essential to a fit, healthy pregnancy.

* Appropriate quantities of yellow and green leafy vegetables are vital for the growth of the baby and the health of the mother.

* Dairy products contain calcium that will assist in the developing baby's teeth and bones. If your diet is lacking calcium your body will draw calcium from your bones to meet it's increased need.

* Avoid excessive amounts of fat must be avoided during pregnancy, as it will only serve to add excess pounds, which will be hard to lose after the birth of your baby.

* Vitamin C in generous amounts is crucial to a healthy pregnancy, bone growth, and various metabolic processes. Including berries, citrus fruits, raw broccoli and cabbage can help provide you with the Vitamin C that you need.

Ideally, your pregnancy diet should include 3-4 servings of protein and meat, 2-4 servings of fruit, 6-11 servings of grains, 4-6 servings of dairy products, and 6-8 glasses of water, milk, and juice. A pregnant mother must follow a healthy diet that will benefit the developing baby but that will also maintain her general health as well.

Exercise recommendations during pregnancy

Exercise during pregnancy will promote strength, muscle tone, and endurance. Regular activity during your pregnancy will help alleviate swelling, fatigue, and backache. If you expect to remain fit during your pregnancy you will need to work your heart and major muscle groups. The type of exercise you do during your pregnancy will depend on your fitness level prior to pregnancy. Walking, pregnancy yoga videos, and swimming are excellent pregnancy exercises combined with stretching and other low-impact activities.

Exercises that involve a risk of falling or injury should be avoided such as bicycling, racket sports, horseback riding, and skiing. You will need to alter your exercise routine from trimester to trimester to accommodate your growing body. Avoiding over-exertion is necessary to avoid complications such as faintness, dizziness, vaginal bleeding, and premature contractions. Also, make sure you drink plenty of water before, during, and after exercising to reduce the risk of dehydration, which can raise your body temperature and cause harm to yourself and/or your baby.

A regular exercise program is beneficial to both mother and child, but check with your health care provider to make sure you have no conditions or risks that will prevent you from participating in a regular exercise routine or could cause potential harm to yourself or your child.

The Hair Up There Methods To Hair Removal

There are a number of options for people looking into hair removal possibilities. With hair removal becoming more and more popular as years go by, there have been a number of advancements made and new products created that have given hair removal customers a variety of options. However, since there are now so many different types of hair removal methods available, it can sometimes be difficult for people to determine which hair removal method is best for them.

The newest hair removal method to be put on the market is laser hair removal. Since advancements of all types of procedures using lasers have become more and more advanced in recent years, it is no surprise that lasers are now being used to remove hair. A wavelength of energy is omitted by the laser, working to kill the hair from its base. The most appealing characteristic of laser hair removal is that after a small number of treatments your hair should be completely dead and you will never have to worry about hair on that specific portion of your body again. Laser hair removal treatments can be spread out farther than other types of hair removal treatment since the laser hair removal process slows the growth of hair. Laser hair removal may seem like the most appealing hair removal procedure but there is a downside. Since laser hair removal is a relatively new procedure and can be high in demand compared to the number of specialists licensed to practice the procedure, the cost of laser hair treatments can be relatively high. In comparison to the other methods of hair removal, laser hair removal is by far the most costly.

A method similar to laser hair removal but that has been around much longer is that of electrolysis. When removing hair by electrolysis, the technician uses a needle that projects an electric current into the hair follicle, killing it at the root. By sending the current directly to the root of the hair follicle it prevents hair from growing back in the same spot. Although it may take longer than laser hair removal, electrolysis is another way to permanently remove hair in a certain area. Like laser hair removal, this takes a number of repeat appointments for treatment. Electrolysis often requires treatment for anywhere up to a year to a year and a half for the hair to be completely removed. Like laser hair treatment, electrolysis can cause some discomfort and pain during treatment when the electric current is killing the hair follicle but it should not last longer than a few minutes after the treatment has ended.

A long used method of hair removal is the process of removing hair using depilatories. Depilatories are made up of a chemical mixture that is applied to a region of unwanted hair. Once applied, the depilatory is left on the hair from anywhere from three to fifteen minutes depending on the size of the area and the amount of hair being removed. Once the chemicals have had time to kill the hair, the depilatory is removed and the area of skin is smooth and free from hair. Unlike laser hair removal and electrolysis, using a depilatory is completely pain free and can be done in the privacy of your own home. A number of depilatories are sold at local supermarkets. However, for people with sensitive skin depilatories may not be the right way to go about removing unwanted hair. Since depilatories contain such strong chemicals in order to kill the hair, they often cause skin irritation for people who are prone to having sensitive skin. Depilatories also typically require repeat treatments considerably sooner than both electrolysis and laser hair removal.

Another hair removal treatment that has been popular for years is that of waxing. Waxing can be done by professionals in a salon or can be done in your own home with one of many self-waxing kits sold in stores. Waxing requires hot wax to be poured on the area and then removed by having strips stuck on and pulled off along with unwanted hair. Although this method is often painful, it is cost effective and can last a while, which keeps many customers coming back for more.

Natural Hair Treatments

Want a hair treatment but too busy or too thrifty to go to the salon? Check out these classic natural hair treatments that may just transform your hair at no cost.

1. Vinegar

Vinegar is a great cure against dandruff and is an effective flake remover. Just put a moderate amount in your scalp, massage slowly, and then wash thoroughly. Vinegar is also a great rinse for too oily or greasy hair as it can close the hair cuticles and get rid of excessive oil to make the hair shiny and manageable.

2. Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is another great dandruff rinse and treatment for oily hair because of its properties similar to the vinegar.

3. Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is perfect for dry hair. To use it, massage from your scalp to your hair tips and then leave in for about an hour. After an hour or so rinse thoroughly.

4. Espresso Coffee

Getting premature or right on time but unwanted gray hair? Rinse with strong espresso coffee to cover any sign or aging.

5. Coconut Milk

Coconut milk is a good treatment if you want instant smooth and shiny hair. Just apply on the scalp, massage gently, and then rinse after a few minutes. Usually the coconut milk treatment is perfect for 2-3 times a month.

6. Egg and Milk

Mix a beaten egg with milk until the mixture becomes one bubbly foam. Rub into your scalp, leave on for five minutes, and then rinse intensively to make sure no mixture is left in your scalp. The egg and milk formula is an excellent treatment for dry hair.

7. Classic Hot Oil

Many salons offer expensive hot oil treatments but the truth is you can have your very own inexpensive hot oil treatment of the same quality at the comfort of your home. The usual method is to apply heated oil on your scalp and hair and then cover your head with a plastic bag, towel, or any head wrap. Leave on for 20-30 minutes then rinse. Just be careful of the temperature of your heated oil and make sure it’s not too cool or too hot.

Sex and the City - The Movie

Our favorite New Yorker Girls are back!

Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), successful author and everyone's favorite fashion icon-next-door, is back, her famously sardonic wit intact sharper than ever, as she continues to narrate her own story about s e x, love and the fashion-obsessed single woman in New York City. The movie finds Carrie, Samantha (Kim Cattral), Charlotte (Kristin Davis), and Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) four years after the hit HBO series ended, as our favorite friends continue to juggle jobs and relationships while navigating motherhood, marriage and Manhattan real estate.

"Year after year, twenty-something women come to New York City in search of two "L"s: labels and love. Twenty years ago, I was one of them. Having gotten the knack for labels early... I concentrated on love."
- Carrie Bradshaw -

The sexiest man in SATC

One of the hottest young studs in Hollywood, Jason Lewis talks about his women, his older women, sex positions and G-spot. I know you all out there can’t wait to see him in The Sex And The City movie. In his interview to ELLE magazine he really makes you want to see it. Some might get horny when reading this.

Read it till the end.

ELLE: When we first met Smith Jerrod, your character on Sex and the City, he was waiting tables and had a devoted clientele of women who hoped to bed him. Since you too once waited tables, I wondered if this ever happened to you?
JASON LEWIS: No, but I did get picked up on an airplane to New York once. It was pretty hot. I was probably 20. I was sitting next to this woman who must have been in her early forties. We had a couple drinks. I guess she was just looking for an adventure, because we made plans to meet at the Limelight later. I had absolutely no idea what the Limelight even was. It was an overwhelming evening.

ELLE: Have you always liked older women?
JASON LEWIS: Older women rock, especially when you’re young. Young people should sleep with older people. Sex is something best done with experience.

ELLE: Just how old a woman have you been with?
JASON LEWIS: When I was living in France, I had a couple-month affair with a woman who was around 50. I never let her see where I lived, because I was a little scared of her. We’d meet in the city and she’d take me out to her chateau, have this great dinner, make love. In the morning, I’d ride her horse while she cooked me breakfast. Then she’d drop me off in Paris.

ELLE: Just to be clear, when you say chateau, is this just a fancy thing the French will call their shack or mobile home?
JASON LEWIS: No. I actually mean chateau. I was like, My God, what am I doing out here.

ELLE: On the show, you and Kim Cattrall’s character, Samantha, are depicted having sex in a number of configurations I’d never seen before. Were these positions familiar?
JASON LEWIS: No, but luckily we had one of those Xeroxed flyers of 101 sexual positions.

ELLE: There was one butt-to-butt position I couldn’t even figure out.
JASON LEWIS: The one where I’m treating her like a chair? Yeah, I think to actually do it you’d have to lean a lot farther forward. All we had were diagrams.

ELLE: In the show, there’s an episode in which your character is plagued by gay rumors. Which of your habits would prove that you’re irrefutably straight?
JASON LEWIS: This is how I’d answer that question: Who the fuck cares? It just depends on your taste and proclivities. I know gay men who dirt-bike just like I dirt-bike.

ELLE: The women of Sex and the City often deal with men they’re not entirely attracted to. Have you ever been with a woman who’s had a deal-breaker of a physical attribute?
JASON LEWIS: I was with a particularly malodorous girl once—beautiful but really stinky. She had every body odor. I remember thinking, Your arms stink. Your breath stinks. Oh, God, even your hair stinks. I had no idea what to do. I remember asking a female friend, “What do I do? Slip her acidophilus when I cook for her?”

ELLE: Did you mention the odors when you broke up?
JASON LEWIS: No, because there were other reasons. I think if I really loved somebody, I could probably get over their stench.

ELLE: Smith Jerrod appears to be very skilled sexually. Do you think you’re good at it?
JASON LEWIS: I’ve read a book or two on the subject. The Kama Sutra’s definitely one of them.

ELLE: Quick: I’m giving you 45 seconds to tell me as much as you can about what you picked up in that book.
JASON LEWIS: Oh, man, do we really want to get into the G-spot?

ELLE: We do.
JASON LEWIS:

Okay. Right up inside it’s a little fleshy pad, and it’s a little different on each woman. You need to stimulate the thing before you attack it. But once it’s awoken, it’s all about gentle pressure from the outside and kneading it from inside.

ELLE: You spent a great deal of time nude on SATC. What’s the longest sustained period of time you’ve been naked off set?
JASON LEWIS: One night when I was 17 or 18, me and my buddies went from party to party naked—we were drunk. I was a little bit of a wild child.
ELLE: How do women respond to naked men in a social situation?
JASON LEWIS: We all went home alone that night.

Kate Moss is New Lingerie Ads Are Fraught With Politics

Kate Moss videos to accompany her new Agent Provocateur bridal ad campaign. The ads depict a bride on her wedding day who has a "last minute change of heart." It features Moss in six different scenes and Showstudio is running On Friday photographer Nick Knight's Website Showstudio.com launched a series of movies to go along with each scene. Since when did lingerie advertising become so complicated? we wondered. Thankfully the Independent answers that question. Apparently Agent Provocateur's co-founder Joe Corre wanted to give Kate an opportunity to stand up to "all the people who have taken a moralistic view of her." Maybe that's why he shot her in red underwear holding slices of wedding cake looking like she'd just trampled a pair of popes ("Let Them Eat Kate").

But more important, Corre wanted to express his views on marriage and the Vatican:

"For me, the idea of marriage, of two people committing to one another, is incredibly beautiful. But at a certain point you hand over the control of that to a different organisation, to something that is disconnected, whether it's the Church or, if it's a civil wedding, the Government. I think perhaps people should question that because what if the authority concerned is corrupt and its intentions are not as pure as the ones you had in the first place?" It's safe to say that he is far from enamoured of the Vatican, in particular. "I only went there recently. It is an outstanding and powerful place but at the same time it's absolutely revolting," he says fierily. "If those people wanted to do something in the world, to stop Third World debt, for example, then they could do that with the stroke of a pen. Everyone knows about the corruption issues that surround the Catholic church but you're not supposed to talk about it because it may be insulting to some people. Give me a break."

Yes, lingerie ads are such a great vehicles to deliver these kinds of messages to the public. If only we'd realized it sooner we'd totally be vlogging in our undies instead of blogging. Man, are we passé.

Christina Aguilera hairstyle

Christina Aguilera made an in-store appearance to promote her Back to Basics: Live and Down Under DVD. Her locks were blow-dried outwards (with a bit of flair) to show-off sliced layers through the back and sides. Christina demonstrates how this style is best suited for those with longer, narrower face shapes. Sure, it’s a more relaxed style, but maybe the event called for just a little more effort.

Christina made quite an impression at Rock the Vote with her classy hairstyle. Her hair was styled into large defined curls which sat beautifully on her shoulders while the top of her style was pulled half back to create height and volume. This is an elegant style that is perfect for any occasion.

First Date Ideas & Second Date Ideas - Love and Romance

First date ideas need to be unique, creative, and fun. There is plenty of pressure when you are getting ready to go on your first date with someone. If you have been going out with a person for awhile or if you have gotten married, there is still pressure for the dates you take your significant other on to turn out right. But there is nothing quite like the pressure of a first date.

After all, even if you have a fun first date idea, if is not successful, it damages your chances of going out with the person again on a second date, or any date after that, for that matter. Because of this, it is imperative that you have a great first date idea to make sure something does not go wrong.

The reason you want first date ideas to turn out right is because this definitely increases the chances that your date will say “Yes!” when you ask him or her out on second date. This is when you will get to try out one of several second date ideas. A first date can be very special to a relationship because this occasion is a night that is often looked back upon when the relationship progresses far beyond a first date.

While the little things that can go wrong on a first date are often laughed at and remembered endearingly down the road in a relationship, the ideal situation is that your loved one remembers how everything about that event went perfectly and without a hitch. Many times, when a couple looks back on their first date, they often remember how romantic it was.

Sometimes having a romantic first date idea is a good first date idea. It is really your preference whether you come up with a fun first date idea or a romantic first date idea. If you are lucky, picking one or the other will not matter because you will go on a date that is both romantic and fun. Luckily, first date ideas can often be interchanged with second date ideas.

10 First Date or Second Date Ideas

  1. Mini Golf: Try out a few rounds of Mini Golf. Getting silly on a Mini Golf course can be a great first date idea to break the ice with a new person that you are seeing. It is also a good way to continue to have a great time with each other on a second date.
  2. Comedy Show: Spending the entire evening sitting side by side laughing with someone you really want to get to know is on of many great first date ideas. There is nothing better than laughing to dispel any anxiety or tension that usually comes with a first date.
  3. Ice Cream: If you are leery of spending an entire evening on the first date and just wish to start small, a great way to do that is to go out to a local ice cream shop and have a scoop or two of your favorite ice cream together. This is a terrific way to begin a relationship with baby steps.
  4. Concert: While you must choose the type of music carefully to allow an atmosphere that is conducive to communication. Perhaps an outdoor jazz festival or other smooth type of music so you can talk and learn about each other. A first date question to ask would be details about what he or she does for a living. Other questions to ask on a first date would be what his or her likes or dislikes are. First date conversation is very important.
  5. Dinner Theater: This first date idea combines dinner with entertainment; what a deal! This is a great date idea for a shy person because on this first date or second date, which ever you choose it to be, the focus will primarily be on the entertainment and not directly on you. This can help if it takes you a few dates to be comfortable with someone.
  6. Museum: Visit a local art, science, music, or history museum together for the first date or second date. This helps especially if you are both fans of one of these. Do not be afraid to ask the opinion of your date on which he or she would prefer. Your date will like the fact that you wanted to ask his or her opinion, and you will have a better time if your date is interested in the place you choose to take him or her. Where to go on a first date is totally up to you, but it helps to sometimes have input.
  7. Flea Market: This first date idea might sound a bit casual to some, but it is a great way to casually get to know someone. If you are on a first date that is informal, the pressure just feels less.
  8. Lunch Date: Have lunch at a new restaurant in town. Experiencing a first together is a great way to do a first date. You can go casual dining or trendy dining. It is totally you and your date’s preference.
  9. Art Class: Take an art class together. Really let go and have a great time being silly and creative. Creating something can form a bond that can last. A first date tip for this first date as well as any first date would be to be yourself and let yourself have fun.
  10. Go Hiking: If you are an active person and want to show your date a great time, going on a hike through nature can be a great way to do that. Getting into the great outdoors is a terrific thing to do together. Plus you are getting outside and exercising.

Which ever of these first date ideas you choose to proceed with, remember to plan ahead and make sure you have planned for everything. Your most important goal is that your first date ideas run smoothly and are memorable, to lead to chances to come up with second date ideas. If there is so much pressure on a first date, just imagine what Adam Sandler had to deal with in the movie 50 First Dates.
